Early aviators memorialized
An Air Force honor guard participates in a ceremony at the Lafayette Memorial outside Paris to pay homage to the United States' first combat aviators who comprised the Lafayette Escadrille. The all-American squadron of volunteers flew under the French flag during World War I where many gave their lives. The Honor Guard detail is assigned to the 435th Security Forces Squadron, Ramstein Air Base, Germany. (U.S. Air Force photo/Master Sgt. Scott Wagers)
