Pulling up to the pump

Airman 1st Class Larry Hamel refuels an F-16 Fighting Falcon from a KC-135 Stratotanker over central Iraq May 19. Airman Hamel is a 340th Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron boom operator deployed from Fairchild Air Force Base, Wash. The KC-135's principal mission is air refueling. This unique asset greatly enhances the Air Force's capability to accomplish its primary missions of global reach and global power. Nearly all internal fuel can be pumped through the flying boom, the KC-135's primary fuel transfer method. (U.S. Air Force photo/Senior Airman Erik Hofmeyer)
