JTACs sharpen war skills in Nevada
Master Sgt. Craig Hillsman provides target information to A-10 Thunderbolt IIs during a training exercise at the Nevada Test and Training Range while Tech. Sgt. Robert Mathis operates a ground laser target designator to mark targets for the A-10s to attack. The sergeants are joint terminal attack controller instructors with the 6th Combat Training Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, Nev. A JTAC acts as a liaison between forces on the ground and aircraft working in support of those forces and will provide target information prior to providing weapons release authority to the aircraft.
