20 Charleston C-17s fill the sky

Staff Sgt. Christopher Brown and 2nd Lt. Kevin Ulrich marshal out the first of 20 C-17 Globemaster IIIs Dec. 21 assigned to Charleston Air Force Base, S.C. Aircrews consisting of active-duty Airmen and reservists train simulating the complexity of this type of mission. The traning mission included airdrops over North Auxiliary Airfield in Orangeburg, S.C., aerial refueling and low-level tactical training. Charleston AFB members launched the largest formation of C-17's to take flight from a single base. Sergeant Brown is from the 315th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron and Lieutenant Ulrich is assigned to the 437th AMXS. (U.S. Air Force photo/Staff Sgt. Marie Cassetty)
