Kirkuk self-help project protects airfield assets, saves money
1st Lt. Sam Walker untangles aircraft cables June 5 at Kirkuk Air Base, Iraq. Airmen here teamed up to place barriers, cables and signs around the airfield recently, mitigating vulnerabilities and lessening safety risks. This self-help airfield-security project saved an estimated $500,000 by using existing assets and volunteers. Lieutenant Walker is the 506th Expeditionary Operations Support Squadron airfield operations flight director. He is a Miami native deployed from Key Field, Miss.
