Challenge pushes Airmen, Soldiers
Staff Sgt. Christian Johnson and Master Sgt. James Gantar take an M-16 rifle apart as teammates Lt. Col. Fredrick Thaden and 1st Lt. Miranda Thompson look on during on a Defender Challenge event April 25 at an air base in Southwest Asia. Each team had to dismantle and put back together an M-16 as fast as they could. Sergeant Gantar is deployed from Grand Forks Air Force Base, N.D., and hails from Girard, Ohio. Sergeant Johnson is deployed from Tyndall AFB, Fla., and hails from Brownsville, Texas. Lieutenant Thompson is deployed from Malmstrom AFB, Mont., and hails from Fleshing, Ohio. Colonel Thaden is a permanent party member at the 380th Air Expeditionary Wing and hails from Utah.
