Working under pressure

MANAS AIR BASE, Kyrgyzstan -- Airman 1st Class Sidney Davil (left) and Airman Keith DeJongh perform a "deck-gun operation" during training here March 11. It is a defensive strategy firefighters use when a fire is too intense for them to enter a facility and there are no life-saving attempts involved. The main objective of this type of operation is to "surround and drown" the fire while keeping it contained to a particular structure. The deck gun can spray as much as 1,000 gallons of water per minute. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. J. Russell Martin)
