BAGRAM AIR BASE, Afghanistan -- Airman 1st Class Daniel Matthews packs a flare into an A-10 Thunderbolt II pilot's survival vest. The life-support specialists are responsible for ensuring more than 50 items are prepared each time a pilot heads to the plane.
