F-117 first strike
An F-117 Nighthawk from the 8th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron lands at an airfield in the Arabian Gulf region after completing the opening air-strike mission of Operation Iraqi Freedom on March 20, 2003. The stealth fighter was one of two F-117s that each struck a command bunker with two 2,000-pound bombs in the early morning. Cruise-missile attacks and the start of massive air operations with thousands of sorties a day followed this opening strike. By May 2, major combat was over and the stabilization phase of the operation began. (Department of Defense photo/Staff Sgt. Derrick C. Goode)
