Money savers
CHARLESTON AIR FORCE BASE, S.C. -- Airman 1st Class Antonio Gault (left) and Master Sgt. Lyndon Dallas check a compensator probe, which helps determine how much fuel is in an aircraft fuel tank. Aircraft fuels systems specialists here teamed with Boeing engineers to fix a probe problem that emerged early during Operation Enduring Freedom. The team developed procedures to remove and clean the probes, saving taxpayers the approximately $844,000 it would have cost to replace all four probes on every C-17 Globemaster III in the fleet. Gault and Dallas are assigned to the 437th Maintenance Squadron here. (U.S. Air Force photo by Airman 1st Class Jason Bailey)
