USO salutes wounded warriors in NYC
Lt. Gen. Dick Newton, deputy chief of staff for manpower and personnel at Air Force Headquarters, talks with Chief Master Sgt. Sandy Ware, during this year's United Service Organizations' "Salute to Our Troops" event in New York City. Chief Ware was medically evacuated from Balad Air Base, Iraq, in August 2007 for a non-combat related medical condition and is currently receiving treatment at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. Twenty-five wounded warriors from Walter Reed and the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., attended the three-day event which culminated in a dinner at the American Museum of Natural History.
