Zabul team combats malnutrition, unsafe water
Capt. (Dr.) James J. Arnold shows Dr. Saleh Mohammed, Director of the Shajoy District Hospital in Shajoy, Afghanistan, how to mix chlorine and water to kill bacteria and parasites. Dr. Arnold is a family medicine doctor and is deployed to the Zabul Provincial Reconstruction Team. In an effort to combat one of the main causes of high infant mortality rate here, Dr. Arnold and other members of the Zabul PRT developed a system for extracting chlorine from salt to sanitize drinking water.
