A WC-130J Super Hercules aircraft assigned to the 53rd Weather Reconnaissance Squadron departs Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., Aug. 13, 2025, en route to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, to collect data on Tropical Storm Erin. The 53rd WRS is the only operational unit in the world to routinely fly weather reconnaissance missions, providing critical data to the National Hurricane Center for storms in the Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of America and central Pacific Ocean.
