    As the United States seeks to lessen its footprint at locations across Southwest Asia, the word retrograde has been on the lips of Department of Defense decision-makers for months. When applied to military operations in Afghanistan, retrograde, which is defined as having a backward motion or direction, translates to the proverbial undoing of more than a decade’s accumulation of assets, equipment and personnel in theater.

In a time honored tradition, Lt. Col. Christopher Carmichael, the 455th EAPS commander, relinquished command of the squadron to Col. Michael Grogan, the 455th Mission Support Group commander, who furled and cased the colors, signifying the official inactivation of the unit.

  • AFCENT rolls out new leave, pass policy

    U.S. Air Forces Central Command officials released the command's revised leave policy June 6, which affects Airmen serving 12-month tours in Southwest Asia. In its recent recertification of the Imminent Danger Pay program, the Department of Defense determined that, effective June 1, personnel serving in nine countries throughout the AFCENT area of responsibility would no longer receive IDP. Use of U.S. Central Command's 15-day Rest and Recuperation program is linked to eligibility for IDP.
  • Re-tread pilot completes 100th combat sortie

    A 22nd Expeditionary Air Refueling Squadron pilot deployed to Transit Center at Manas, Kyrgyzstan, recently flew his 100th combat sortie during an air refueling mission in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
