    WWII bomber pilot awarded Silver Star

    A World War II bomber pilot has finally been given recognition for his actions during a bombing raid more than 70 years ago.
  • Rowland Ball served as a B-29 Superfortress navigator during the tail end of World War II. He flew 27 missions out of Guam and left soon after the war ended. After 71 years, the 91-year-old received the opportunity to come back to Andersen Air Force Base, known as Northfield in 1945, and share stories about his experiences on Guam.     WWII aviator returns to Guam after 71 years, gets unexpected surprise

    The year was 1945 during the tail end of World War II. The sound of roaring aircraft engines and boots on the ground filled the air, raising decibel levels to resounding heights. For Rowland Ball, now 91, the sounds became familiar and today serve as a nostalgic reminder of his time as a B-29 Superfortress navigator.

    Bomber trio participates in first integrated bomber operation in Pacific

    History was made Aug. 17 when all three of Air Force Global Strike Command's strategic power projection bombers, the B-52 Stratofortress, B-1B Lancer and B-2 Spirit, simultaneously took to the sky during their first integrated bomber operation in the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

    All global strike bombers deploy to Andersen, maintain stability in PACOM theater

    Air Force Global Strike Command's three strategic bombers, the B-52 Stratofortress, B-1B Lancer and B-2 Spirit, are all in the U.S. Pacific Command region conducting the area's first integrated operational mission for all three bombers.

    The B-1B Lancers are scheduled to deploy to Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, Aug. 6 for the first time since April 2006 in support of U.S. Pacific Command’s continuous bomber presence mission.

    B-21 naming contest moves to next phase

    Submission entries for the B-21 bomber naming contest concluded May 5. Active, Guard, Reserve and civilian Airmen, along with their dependents, submitted more than 4,600 entries in response to the contest announced by Air Force Secretary Deborah Lee James during the Air Force Association Air Warfare Symposium in February.

    Software update keeps B-52 at forefront of bomber fleet

    The B-52 Stratofortress will soon receive a software upgrade that will keep the aircraft at the forefront of the U.S. strategic bomber fleet. As new equipment and advanced weapons are added to the B-52 fleet, the B-52 Software Block (BSB) upgrades allow the aircraft to utilize the full potential of those new and improved systems.
