Air Force & Space Force announce sweeping changes to maintain superiority amid Great Power Competition

The United States faces a time of consequence marked by significant shifts in the strategic environment. To remain ready, the U.S. Air Force must change.

In early 2024, the Department of the Air Force unveiled sweeping plans for reshaping, refocusing, and reoptimizing the Air Force and Space Force to ensure continued supremacy in their respective domains while better posturing the services to deter and, if necessary, prevail in an era of Great Power Competition. Through a series of 24 DAF-wide key decisions, four core areas which demand the Department’s attention will be addressed: Develop People, Generate Readiness, Project Power and Develop Capabilities.

Today, the Air Force once again finds itself at a critical juncture—an era of Great Power Competition marked by a new security environment, a rapidly evolving character of war, and a formidable competitor. This new era requires understanding its challenges and the attributes needed to succeed.

Embracing change is not a choice; it is a necessity. The Air Force must “reoptimize” into an enterprise prepared for high-end conflicts and long-term strategic competition.

Enhancing the Innovation Ecosystem: 75th IC ignites presence at 2022 Fed Supernova

Senior leaders from the 75th Innovation Command developed key partnerships with entrepreneurs, academic institution and service members representing cutting edge commands from sister branches during the 2022 Fed Supernova Sept. 27-29, 2022, at the Omni Hotel in Austin, Texas.

The 75th IC also earned a seat at a panel during the Fed Supernova conference Sept. 29. Brig. Gen. Heather Reuter, deputy commanding general, 75th IC, joined Texas university system administrators with an extensive background in national security to discuss how academic institutions partner with the Department of Defense to protect America's interests, people, and principles founded on freedom and diversity.

Reuter emphasized that academia is an essential force multiplier that brings enhanced value to the Army Modernization Enterprise. She also mentioned that the 75th IC's mission to enhance the Future Force hinges on developing breakthroughs in robotics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and other cutting edge technology theorized, tested, and improved by members of academia.

The panel was one of dozens of formal presentations and discussions conducted at Fed Supernova. Sponsored by Capital Factory, the three-day conference connects entrepreneurs, government and industry together to collaborate on dual-use solutions that put commercial technology in the hands of the Department of Defense. Reuter and other 75th IC leaders discussed ideas with their private, academic and federal counterparts about how the Army Reserve can support the future force through enduring partnerships founded on innovation, collaboration and creativity.
