Air Force & Space Force announce sweeping changes to maintain superiority amid Great Power Competition

The United States faces a time of consequence marked by significant shifts in the strategic environment. To remain ready, the U.S. Air Force must change.

In early 2024, the Department of the Air Force unveiled sweeping plans for reshaping, refocusing, and reoptimizing the Air Force and Space Force to ensure continued supremacy in their respective domains while better posturing the services to deter and, if necessary, prevail in an era of Great Power Competition. Through a series of 24 DAF-wide key decisions, four core areas which demand the Department’s attention will be addressed: Develop People, Generate Readiness, Project Power and Develop Capabilities.

Today, the Air Force once again finds itself at a critical juncture—an era of Great Power Competition marked by a new security environment, a rapidly evolving character of war, and a formidable competitor. This new era requires understanding its challenges and the attributes needed to succeed.

Embracing change is not a choice; it is a necessity. The Air Force must “reoptimize” into an enterprise prepared for high-end conflicts and long-term strategic competition.

INNOVATIVE READINESS TRAINING AND THE GIRL SCOUTS BRING NATIONAL GUARD AND RESERVE MEMBERS FROM ALL BRANCHES TOGETHER IN HAWAII.
CAMP PAUMALU ON OAHU’S NORTH SHORE WILL HOST AND HELP TRAIN FIVE-HUNDRED-AND-FIFTY MILITARY MEMBERS OVER THE COURSE OF A TWO-YEAR PROJECT.
THE I-R-T PROGRAM SELECTS PROJECTS THAT CAN PROVIDE THE MILITARY REAL-WORLD TRAINING FOR VARIOUS CONSTRUCTION JOBS WITHIN CIVIL ENGINEERING.
THEY’RE CONSTRUCTING A GIRL SCOUTS STEM CENTER OF EXCELLENCE ALONG WITH MULTIPLE CAMP SITES, A TRAINING OPPORTUNITY THAT WILL IMPACT GENERATIONS OF GIRLS TO COME.
THE PROJECT BROKE GROUND IN APRIL WITH A TRADITIONAL HAWAIIAN CEREMONY
USING TI LEAVES AND O’O STICKS A MINSTER BLESSES THE GROUND AND THOSE WHO WILL BE WORKING ON THE PROJECT.
GUARD AND RESERVE UNITS WILL CONTINUOUSLY COME IN AND OUT COMPLETING TWO-WEEK ROTATIONS AT CAMP PAUMALU UNTIL THE SITE IS COMPLETE. THEY’LL ALSO BE WIDENING ROADS FOR BETTER ACCESS AND BUILDING SMALLER CAMP SITES AROUND THE 135-ACRE PLOT.
THE GIRL SCOUTS OF HAWAII ARE EAGER, THIS SITE WILL PROVIDE AN INTERNATIONAL LOCATION FOR GIRLS TO LEARN ABOUT SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING AND MATHEMATICS
ACCEPTANCE INTO THE I-R-T PROGRAM IS A LONG PROCESS BUT WHEN IT TRAINS MILITARY MEMBERS AND PROVIDE A COMMUNITY BENEFIT POSITIVE INFLUENCE EFFECT EVERYONE.
