Officials begin negotiations for largest crystalline solar development in North America

11/24/2009 - SAN ANTONIO (AFNS) -- Air Force Real Property Agency officials are set to begin negotiations with a leading global independent solar power producer to develop the largest crystalline photovoltaic solar development in North America on Edwards Air Force Base, Calif.
Once negotiations are finalized with Fotowatio Renewable Ventures and the enhanced use lease is signed, the 3,288-acre Edwards AFB development will deliver enough energy to power nearly 89,000 homes.
"This is a great achievement for the Air Force, renewable energy, energy security, and all of our community and commercial partners," said Bob Moore, the director of AFRPA. "We are proud to deliver these sorts of energy solutions to our Airmen and surrounding communities."
Kathleen I. Ferguson, the deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force for installations, approved the selection of Fotowatio Renewable Ventures as the highest offerer following a highly competitive evaluation of developer submitted proposals by a team consisting of AFRPA, Edwards AFB and Air Force Materiel Command. |
