WASHINGTON (AFNS) -- Dr. Erich “HB” Hernandez-Baquero was sworn in as the second Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space Acquisition and Integration during a Pentagon ceremony this morning, following his confirmation to the role by the U.S. Senate, Aug. 7.
Prior to his confirmation, Hernandez-Baquero worked as the Vice President for space intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance at RTX following a successful Air Force career having held leadership positions at the National Reconnaissance Office. In this new role, he becomes the service acquisition executive for space programs within the Department of the Air Force.
“Congratulations to HB on his confirmation. His unique blend of military leadership and extensive industry experience makes him the ideal leader for this critical role,” said Secretary of the Air Force Troy Meink. “The space domain is evolving at an unprecedented pace, and we must rapidly field resilient, cutting-edge capabilities to stay ahead of the pacing challenge. I am confident that under his guidance, our space acquisition enterprise will deliver the vital systems our Guardians and joint warfighters need.”
Hernandez-Baquero’s priorities in his new role will revolve around implementing and executing acquisition reforms, delivering integrated capabilities to the warfighter, and revitalizing the acquisition workforce.
