Taxpayer's comment has no validity. The cost of the billion dollar plus vehicle included major facilities and equipment in Calif., Texas, Washington and elsewhere that are still in use on other programs, plus development of state-of-the-art processes also in use on other programs. Actual per-vehicle cost was close to $425 million. A bargain: the cold war stopper.

Sorry Linda, but sending a sub or ship is far more cost effective, depending on the mission. With a ship, such as a carrier, you get a ton more fire power as well as 24/7 coverage of the zone. A cruise missile can pretty much do the same thing. There are enough assets in the area to support this mission; it was just a way to get the B-2 to actually do something. The men and women that work hard at Whiteman to support this mission deserve kudos and our support; sadly the aircraft itself is a waste.

Taxpayer- Compare the cost of the B-2 and its crew of 2 pilots with the cost of sending a submarine or ship and its crew of hundreds or thousands to location and you definitely come up with a cost savings. The B-2 is doing the job is was designed for and doing a exemplary job at that.

Don't get me wrong I love the B-2, but why send in a billion dollar plus aircraft from half way across the globe for this when we already had enough assets in the area? We had cruise missiles launched from ships and subs to take out radar sites and other threats. Seems risky and pointless.

While the B2 is an impressive aircraft, it's about time it got into the fight and earned it's keep. Other than the occasional trips to Guam it hasn't done much since the Iraq invasion. I by no means deny the hard work our men and women do day to day to work and support this aircraft, but it really wasn't a real wise investment of tax dollars.

The men and women of Whiteman AFB are taking care of business from thousands of miles away...again. Great teamwork. AIRPOWER

The B-2s are getting rid of some of the surface-to-air threats to create a more permissive environment for the air-to-air fighter patrols.

If the runways, radar, radio, and SAM locations have been destroyed by bombs, then fighters can't take off, our planes cannot be tracked, communications are blocked and they can't defend themselves from us.

If you bomb the runway then they can't fly. It's pretty simple,Donny

By taking away their ability to fly at all.

I always thought of a no-fly zone as fighters patrolling and shooting down unauthorized flights. How does a B-2 enforce a no-fly zone?
