6/28/2011 - WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (AFNS) -- The Air Force Enlisted Village is offering the only remaining full- and half-marathon slots in exchange for raising funds for the charity, according to a news release.
The Air Force Marathon, scheduled for Sept. 17, sold out all its full- and half-marathon slots more than three weeks ago.
This opportunity represents a second chance to secure one of the highly sought-after slots.
Runners can register for the race by visiting the AFEV website, www.afev.us, and clicking on the Air Force Marathon logo. From there, they will be asked to create a fundraising page at www.active.com/donate/AFEV.
AFEV requires runners to raise a minimum of $500 in order to earn one of the coveted slots in this year's 15th Air Force Marathon.
"It really amounts to asking only 20 people to donate $1 per mile," said Scarlett Bauman, the AFEV marketing director. "You can email the link to your fundraising page to friends and family, post it on your Facebook or Twitter page, and it's a quick, easy way to raise funds for a good cause."
Ms. Bauman also suggests that information about Air Force Enlisted Village's mission be included in the emails. AFEV is a non-profit organization that provides a safe, secure home for surviving spouses of former military heroes and mothers of current active-duty and retired military members.
The Air Force Enlisted Village was founded in 1967 to provide a safe, secure and dignified place for indigent surviving spouses of retired Air Force personnel.
