Board Of Visitors to meet at the Air Force Academy

7/12/2011 - U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. (AFNS) -- The Air Force Academy's Board of Visitors is scheduled to meet at the Academy July 15 and 16. The purpose of the meeting is to review morale and discipline, social climate, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods and other matters relating to the Academy.

Members of the board include Susan Schwab, BoV chairperson and former U.S. ambassador; Alfredo Sandoval, BoV vice chairman, managing partner of the Private Investment Group and a 1982 graduate of the Academy; U.S. Senator Ben Nelson (D-Neb.); U.S. Representative Jared Polis (D-Col., 2nd Dist.); U.S. Representative Doug Lamborn (R-Colo., 5th Dist.); U.S. Representative Loretta Sanchez (D-Calif., 47th Dist.); U.S. Representative Niki Tsongas (D-Mass., 5th Dist.); Susan Ross, owner of Sierra Consulting and a 1983 graduate of the Academy; former U.S. Representative Robert Hayes (R-North Carolina, 8th Dist.), owner/operator of Mt. Pleasant Hosiery Mill, Inc; retired Lt. Gen. Arlen Jameson, who served in military and commercial space ventures which included a position as executive director of the Texas Telecommunication infrastructure; and retired Maj. Gen. Marcelite Harris, who's distinguished career included many firsts such as the first woman aircraft maintenance officer and one of the first two women air officers commanding at the Academy.

New members appointed to the board are Senator Michael Bennet (D- CO), Senator John Hoeven (R- ND) and Senator Lindsey Graham (R- SC).

Also expected to attend the meeting are Daniel B. Ginsberg, assistant secretary of the Air Force for manpower and Reserve affairs; Lt. Gen. Darrel D. Jones, deputy chief of staff for manpower, personnel and services; Lt. Gen. Michael C. Gould, the Academy's superintendent; Bill Booth, deputy assistant secretary of the Air Force for manpower and Reserve affairs and designated federal officer for the Academy Board of Visitors; and Daniel R. Sitterly, director of force development for DCS, manpower, personnel and services; and other members of the Academy's senior staff.

The board last met in Washington D.C. on May 13.
