1/22/2012 - MANAMA, Bahrain (AFNS) -- Airmen and Sailors from across the Air Force and Navy traveled here to represent U.S. military forces during the Bahrain International Airshow Jan. 19.
The biannual show is the second of its kind for Bahrain and has quickly become acclaimed throughout the region.
"We always look forward to highlighting the great relationship we have with the Kingdom of Bahrain, one of our strongest partners in the region. We are honored to once again get the invitation to come here and participate in this important event," said Col. Dean Neeley, the U.S. Air Forces Central security cooperation director.
Aircraft from Air Mobility Command and Air Combat Command, flown by active duty and Air National Guard aircrews made the journey. C-17 Globemaster III and C-130H Hercules transport aircraft sat side-by-side with an F-15C Strike Eagle. Along with the Air Force aircraft, F/A 18 Super Hornets, supported by U.S. Sailors, also made the flight, thrilling the crowd with static displays and aerial demonstrations. The Navy also participated by having P-3 Orion, MH-53E Sea Dragon and SH-60 Seahawk static displays.
Bahrain has played a key role in aviation for decades due to its geographic location, centered near Asia, Africa and the European continents. It has also been a strategic partner for the United States for many decades now, with the U.S. military maintaining a presence here for more than 60 years.
