4/26/2012 1:35:52 PM ET Re comment would be like the AF eliminating all Centers...AF is in the process right now of combining 12 Centers into 5 with acquisition program offices not even under HQ AFMC but reporting directly to SAE...go figure.

4/25/2012 3:28:40 PM ET This organization was never needed in the first place, what a waste of time and money. Now if only we could continue this trend and get rid of 8AF and 12AF.

4/25/2012 2:44:20 PM ET As one who was there in 1996 when 17AF first inactivated as USAFE downsized to two NAFs I applaud this move but also salute the current 17AF on its accomplishments during its brief reactivation. USAFE as component MAJCOM and 3AF as warfighting HQs with assigned forces are more than capable to support two CCDRs. This model has worked for NAVEUR for years. I disagree with Jerry on eliminating all NAFs - that would be like eliminating all Centers and assigning all program offices directly under HQ AFMC. But agree there can be some further NAF consolidation perhaps within PACAF AETC AFGSC or AFSPC. Whether we really need all these distinct MAJCOMs is an entirely different sunject.

4/25/2012 12:13:44 PM ET This begs the question of when ALL numbered Air Forces will stand down With faster communication and technology why the need for numbered Air Forces Most activity is between Major Commands and Wings. It seems numbered Air Forces exist because the Air Force has always had them and they are a good place to park General officers.
