5/20/2013 - WASHINGTON (AFPS) -- Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel today announced Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., as one of five of the 2013 recipients of the Commander in Chief's Annual Award for Installation Excellence.

The award recognizes the outstanding and innovative efforts of the people who operate and maintain U.S. military installations, Pentagon officials said, and the five recipients were selected for their exemplary support of Defense Department missions.

The other installations are:

-- U.S. Army Garrison Fort Rucker, Ala.;

-- Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif.;

-- Naval Support Activity Panama City, Panama City Beach, Fla.; and

-- Defense Logistics Agency Land and Maritime, Columbus, Ohio.

Installation excellence enables better mission performance and enhances the quality of life for service members and their families, officials said in a statement announcing the selections. Each winning installation succeeded in providing excellent working, housing and recreational conditions, officials added.

Each winning installation will still receive a commemorative commander in chief's award trophy and flag, along with a congratulatory letter from the president.

Installation awards are dog-n-pony shows plain and simple. It goes to the base that hosts the best parties for the assessment team.Looking for places to cut costs Stop these week long paid vacations for teams to travel all over the world in the base beauty contest.To PTD Dover it's an installation award not specific to the host wing.

Hey Lt Col at home if you'd make an effort to learn about what happenend at Dover you might know a little about it instead of regurgitating sensationalized inaccurate media reports. Regardless the Mortuary and the Wing are two entirely different entities. One reports to AMC and does the IEA package. The other reports to HAF and doesn't. Details are a pain aren't they I know it's a lot of work but it's difficult to get them right when you won't make the effort to read past the headline
Proud Team Dover, Dover

I was a member of a Wing team prepping for one of these a few years ago at another base. The base that wins is the one that can spin their mostly self-created problems into success stories the best. No points are given for integrity. Dover won a lot recently during the years when they were losing body parts. Enough said.
