Don S. Wenger was born at Monroe, Wis., in 1911. He graduated from high school in Monroe in 1928 and attended Milton College at Milton, Wis., 1929-1930. He entered the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1930 and graduated in 1934. In 1937 he graduated from Marquette University School of Medicine in Milwaukee. Upon completion of his internship at the Milwaukee Hospital in July 1937, Doctor Wenger practiced medicine in that city until his entrance into the service in January 1940.

First Lieutenant Wenger's first assignment was assistant port surgeon at the Brooklyn Port of Embarkation in New York. He was assigned to Fort Mason, Calif., as transport surgeon from April 1940 to July 1941. Doctor Wenger had a number of assignments of less than one year prior to being assigned overseas in December 1944. He was commanding officer of the 124th Evacuation Hospital in Germany from Dec. 24, 1944 to April 18, 1946 and was chief of the surgical service, 98th General Hospital in that country from April 19, 1946 to March 19, 1947.

Upon return to the States in March 1947 Colonel Wenger resumed specialty training in general surgery. His first assignment upon completion of this professional training at Oliver General Hospital, Augusta, Ga., in August 1949 was base surgeon and chief of professional services at Chanute Air Force Base, Ill. While stationed at Chanute Air Force Base, Colonel Wenger attended the Primary Course in Aviation Medicine at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, on a temporary duty basis and was designated aviation medical examiner.

Colonel Wenger was deputy director of professional services and consultant in general surgery in the Office of the Surgeon General, U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., from Jan. 9, 1953 to Feb. 5, 1957.

From Feb. 5, 1957 to Nov. 23, 1959 he was chairman of the Department of Surgery at the USAF Hospital, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

In November 1959 Doctor Wenger returned to the Surgeon General's Office in Washington as chief professional consultant to the surgeon general, being promoted to brigadier general in August 1961. He is a rated senior flight surgeon.

During the past several years General Wenger attended night classes at the Law School of St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas, and The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. and received an bachelor of laws degree from the latter university in June 1962.

General Wenger is a member of the Methodist Church and is active in several professional organizations.
