Returning to the United States in 1969, he was assigned to Carswell Air Force Base, Texas, as an FB-111 cadre instructor pilot. From August 1971 to May 1974 General Searock served at Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., in the Strategic Operations Division, Directorate of Operations. Upon completion of that assignment in May 1974, he joined the White House military staff as assistant for plans to the military assistant to the president.

His first Air Force Logistics Command assignment, in June 1985, was as vice commander of the Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, Tinker Air Force Base, Okla. In June 1987 he became deputy chief of staff for logistics, Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb.
