MAJOR GENERAL JACK BONDS ROBBINS Major General Jack Bonds Robbins is the director of data automation, Comptroller of the Air Force, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., and is also commander of the Air Force Data Automation Agency at Gunter Air Force Base, Ala. As director of data automation, he is the single manager for all Air Force data automation matters. He directs, controls and manages the overall Air Force data automation program. As commander, AFDAA, he supervises the activities of various units providing wide data automation support to Air Force major commands and other Federal agencies. General Robbins was born in 1923, in New Albany, Miss., where he attended New Albany High School and graduated in June 1941. He attended Harrison-Stone-Jackson Junior College and Mississippi State University. In March 1943 he enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve and six days later was ordered to active duty and assigned as an aircraft mechanic. He entered aviation cadet training at Amarillo, Texas, in February 1944, completed cadet training at Hondo, Texas, in February 1945 and graduated as a navigator with a commission as second lieutenant. He attended B-29 aircraft engineering school at Amarillo, Texas, and Denver, Colo., until June 1945. In July 1945 General Robbins was assigned as a flight engineer and navigator on RB-29 aircraft with the 1st Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron at Kadena, Okinawa. In August 1947 he returned to the United States and entered pilot training at Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, and graduated a year later. In March 1949 he was assigned to the 314th Troop Carrier Group, Sewart Air Force Base, Tenn., as a pilot and later as assistant operations officer. During the Korean War, he was transferred with the Group to Ashiya Air Base, Japan, in September 1950, and became operations officer for the 314th Group in February 1952. In September 1953 he returned to the United States and was assigned as director of operations for the 456th Troop Carrier Wing, Charleston Air Force Base, S.C. In June 1955 he assumed duties as commander of the 745th Troop Carrier Squadron, and in November 1955 he was transferred with the squadron for six months temporary duty operations at Misawa Air Base, Japan. In June 1956 he entered the Air Command and Staff School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. From July 1957 until September 1960 General Robbins was assigned to the 8th District Office, Directorate of Special Investigations (Office of Special Investigations) with duty at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. While at Maxwell, he attended the University of Alabama and received a bachelor of arts degree in political science. He next attended Oklahoma State University, Stillwater, Okla., under the Air Force Institute of Technology program, and received a master's degree in mathematics in 1962. From September 1962 to July 1965, General Robbins was assigned to the 465L System Program Office of the Electronics Systems Division, Air Force Systems Command, at L.G. Hanscom Field, Mass. He returned to Maxwell Air Force Base in August 1965 to attend the Air War College. In July 1966 he was assigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Force, in the Office of the Comptroller of the Air Force where he served as both branch and division chief in the Directorate of Data Automation and in September 1969 was appointed as deputy director. From July 1970 to August 1971, he was assigned as chief of staff, Air Force Communications Service with headquarters at Richards-Gebaur Air Force Base, Mo. In September 1971 he returned to the Office of the Comptroller of the Air Force, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces to assume the duties of director of data automation and later was assigned additional duties as commander of the Air Force Data Automation Agency at Gunter Air Force Base, Ala. His military decorations and awards include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Army Commendation Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation Emblem, and the Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon.
