MAJOR GENERAL ANDREW PRINGLE JR. Major General Andrew Pringle Jr. is the chief of staff, Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Neb. General Pringle was born in 1927, in Seattle and raised in Riverside, Calif. He has a bachelor of arts degree from Central Michigan University, Mount Pleasant. General Pringle enrolled in the aviation cadet program and was commissioned a second lieutenant in June 1950. His initial assignment was to Castle Air Force Base, Calif., with the 93rd Bombardment Wing. From 1954 to 1960, he served with the 90th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing, Forbes Air Force Base, Kan., and the 100th Bombardment Wing, Pease Air Force Base, N.H. His next assignment was as a pilot evaluator with the 1st Combat Evaluation Group, Barksdale Air Force Base, La. In 1963 he transferred to Headquarters Eighth Air Force, Westover Air Force Base, Mass., where he served in various operations positions. He was then assigned to Headquarters SAC as a plans officer. In 1969 General Pringle returned to Westover Air Force Base's 99th Bombardment Wing. During this period he performed temporary duty at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, for B-52 air operations in Southeast Asia. While with the 99th Bombardment Wing he commanded the 348th Bombardment Squadron, was assistant deputy chief of staff for operations and deputy commander of the 99th Combat Support Group. He transferred to Blytheville Air Force Base, Ark., as the deputy commander for operations with the 97th Bombardment Wing in December 1971. He served a second temporary duty tour at Andersen Air Force Base in late 1972 during Operation Bullet Shot as the deputy commander for operations for the 72nd Strategic Wing (Provisional). In December 1972 General Pringle was assigned to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, where he commanded the 17th Bombardment Wing. In June 1974 General Pringle returned to Andersen Air Force Base to command the 43rd Strategic Wing. In June 1975 he become the inspector general for Air Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, and then in January 1977 assumed command of the Lowry Technical Training Center, Lowry Air Force Base, Colo. He returned to Andersen Air Force Base in April 1978 to command SAC's 3rd Air Division. In August 1979 he became deputy chief of staff for operations at SAC headquarters. He assumed his present position in August 1980. He is a command pilot with 9,000 hours in Strategic Air Command aircraft, including more than 440 combat hours in the B-52 Stratofortress. His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award ribbon with "V" device and Good Conduct Medal. He was promoted to major general July 1, 1978, with date of rank Sept. 1, 1974. (Current as of September 1980)
