MAJOR GENERAL JOHN E. MORRISON JR. Major General John E. Morrison Jr., is assistant director for production, National Security Agency, Fort George G. Meade, Md. General Morrison was born in 1918, in Baltimore, Md. He graduated from the University of Baltimore with a bachelor of laws degree. In February 1942 he was commissioned in the Army Signal Corps and was assigned to the Signal Intelligence Service, Army Air Forces, Washington D.C. In January 1943 during World War II, he was assigned to the Army Airways Communications System for duty in the Pacific area. During his service in the area, General Morrison served in all theaters of operations and participated in the task force invasions of Munda, Bougainville, Green, Emirau, and Luzon Islands. Upon returning from overseas, he was assigned to Headquarters Army Air Forces in January 1946 and was appointed a branch chief in the Communications System Division, Directorate of Communications, a position which he held for three years. In 1947 he was transferred to the U.S. Air Force. In July 1949 he was detailed to the Air Command and Staff School as a student and upon graduation was retained as a member of the faculty. Completing his tour of duty at the Air University, General Morrison was assigned to the U.S. Air Force Security Service, in July 1953 and ordered to Alaska to assume command of the 6981st Radio Group Mobile. Returning to the United States in February 1956, General Morrison became assistant deputy chief of staff, operations, Headquarters USAFSS, until June 1957 at which time he assumed command of the Air Force Special Communications Center, remaining as its commander until he departed for the Air War College in July 1958. After graduating from the Air War College in July 1959 General Morrison was again assigned to Headquarters U.S. Air Force and appointed Air Force coordinator for the Military Communications Electronics Board and in July 1960 became the chief, Policy and Objectives Division, of the Directorate of Telecommunications. In November 1961 he was designated assistant director of Defense Communications Agency for plans and programs. In October 1962 General Morrison became executive assistant to the director, deputy chief of staff, an assignment which he held until his designation as chief, National Security Agency, Pacific, in July 1963. Returning from the Pacific Command area in July 1966, he was assigned to Headquarters, NSA, where he assumed the position of deputy assistant director for production. In February 1968 General Morrison was appointed assistant director for production. His military decorations and awards include the Legion of Merit with oak leaf cluster; Bronze Star Medal with oak leaf cluster; Air Force Commendation Medal; and the Army Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster. On June 20, 1966, General Morrison was awarded by the president of the Republic of Korea, the Order of Service Merit, Third Class. General Morrison's hometown is Baltimore, Md. General Morrison was promoted to the temporary grade of major general effective July 13, 1968, with date of rank Feb. 7, 1964. (Current as of March 1, 1972)
