BRIGADIER GENERAL DONALD L. MOORE Brigadier General Donald L. Moore is vice commander, Air Force Communications Command with headquarters at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. As a major command, Air Force Communications Command engineers, installs, operates, and maintains communications-electronics-meteorological equipment and facilities for the Air Force and selected government and civilian agencies. This encompasses information systems, including long-haul intercontinental, local base, and command and control communications, air traffic control and navigational aid facilities, weather equipment, and Air Force standardized data automation processing activities. General Moore was born in 1935, in Oklahoma City and graduated from Borger (Texas) High School in 1953. He received both his bachelor's and master's degrees in computer science from Texas A&M University, College Station, in 1957 and 1966, respectively. He completed Squadron Officer School, Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala., in 1961; Armed Forces Staff College, Norfolk, Va., in 1970; and was a distinguished graduate of the Air War College, also at Maxwell, in 1976. He entered active duty in October 1957, and received his commission and wings after completing undergraduate pilot training at Greenville Air Force Base, Miss., in November 1958. His first operational assignment was to Ramey Air Force Base, Puerto Rico, in January 1959 as a KC-135 Stratotanker pilot. From February 1962 until May 1964, he served as a KC-135 pilot and aircraft commander at Barksdale Air Force Base, La. After receiving his graduate degree in January 1966, through the Air Force Institute of Technology program, General Moore entered the data automation field and was assigned to the Air Force's new separate operating agency for data automation, Air Force Data Systems Design Center at Suitland Hall, Md. While there he served as chief of the center's Systems Control Division. He remained at the center until January 1970 when he attended the Armed Forces Staff College. Following graduation in August 1970, General Moore was assigned to Headquarters 7th Air Force, director of operations, Tan Son Nhut Air Base, Republic of Vietnam. From September 1971 to July 1975, he served at Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe at Wiesbaden and Ramstein Air Bases, Germany. During this time he performed duty in the command's Data Automation Office and with the inspector general's team. Upon completion of the Air War College in June 1976, he took command of the 6917th Security Group at San Vito dei Normanni Air Station, Italy. Returning to the United States in November 1978, he was named vice commander of the Air Force Data Systems, Design Center at Gunter Air Force Station, Ala., and took command of the center in March 1980. In October 1980 he became assistant deputy chief of staff for communications electronics and computer resources, North American Aerospace Defense Command, Aerospace Defense Command and Aerospace Defense Center, with headquarters in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was assigned as director of command, control, communications and computer systems (C4S), U.S. Readiness Command; and deputy director of command, control, communications and computer systems, Joint Deployment Agency, MacDill Air Force Base, Fla., in August 1982. He assumed his present duties in July 1984. The general is a command pilot with more than 4,000 flying hours. His military decorations and awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal with oak leaf cluster, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Air Medal and Air Force Commendation Medal. He was promoted to brigadier general Dec. 1, 1982, with date of rank Oct. 1, 1982. (Current as of January 1985)
