MAJOR GENERAL WARREN C. MOORE Major General Warren C. Moore is vice commander in chief, Aerospace Defense Command, Peterson Air Force Base, Colo. General Moore was born in San Antonio, Texas, in 1928, graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School, El Paso, Texas, and attended the University of Texas, majoring in architecture. He earned a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Maryland in 1964, a master's degree in business administration from Auburn University in 1971 and was a distinguished graduate of the Air War College in 1971. He was commissioned through the Air Force Reserve Officers' Training Corps program at the University of Texas in June 1951 and earned his pilot wings at Webb Air Force Base, Texas, in 1952. His next assignment was at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., where he flew the F-84 Thunderjet. General Moore joined the 49th Fighter-Bomber Wing at Kunsan, Korea, in December 1952 and flew 41 combat missions over North Korea before the war ended in 1953. He returned to the United States in December 1953 and was assigned to the Air Training Command. After attending basic instructor school he served as a basic flight instructor at Bryan Air Force Base, Texas; as an instructor in pilot training school at Craig Air Force Base, Ala.; and as a member of the Air Training Command's standardization and evaluation team. In January 1957 General Moore entered Squadron Officer School at Maxwell Air Force Base, Ala. He served as an assistant professor of air sciences in the Air Force ROTC detachment at Southern Illinois University from July 1957 to September 1960. In November 1960 General Moore was transferred to Seventeenth Air Force with headquarters at Ramstein Air Base, Germany, and served as a senior operations duty officer in the Combat Operations Center and on the Combat Mission Planning Team for Europe. He next had a tour of duty in the Plans and Programs Division, Headquarters Air Training Command, Randolph Air Force Base, Texas, from August 1964 to January 1967. He then returned to Tactical Air Command for F-4 Phantom training. General Moore went to Southeast Asia in August 1967 and served in a number of operational duties with the 366th Tactical Fighter Wing, Da Nang Air Base, Republic of Vietnam, including chief of the tactics division and assistant director of operations. While with the "Gunfighters" at Da Nang Air Base and Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, he completed 100 combat missions over North Vietnam and 29 incountry combat missions. In June 1968 General Moore returned to Headquarters Air Training Command as director, plans and programs, in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff, Plans. General Moore was assigned as deputy commander for operations, 82nd Flying Training Wing, Williams Air Force Base, Ariz., in August 1971 and become commander in September 1972. General Moore returned to Headquarters Air Training Command in March 1974 as assistant deputy chief of staff, operations. In July 1974 he was named commander of the Officer Training School, Air Training Command, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, and in March 1975 was given the additional duty of vice commander, Air Force Military Training Center. He became commander of the Lowry Technical Training Center in August 1975. In January 1977 General Moore took command of the United States Logistics Group, Ankara, Turkey. He assumed his current duties as vice commander in chief, Aerospace Defense Command, on Feb. 15, 1979. He is a command pilot with more then 4,500 flying hours. His military decorations and awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross with oak leaf cluster, Bronze Star Medal, Air Medal with 12 oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Distinguished Unit Citation emblem and Air Force Outstanding Unit Award ribbon with "V" device and two oak leaf clusters.
