LIEUTENANT GENERAL ROBERT P. MCCOY Lieutenant General Robert P. McCoy is vice commander, Air Force Logistics Command, with headquarters at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. AFLC provides logistics resources necessary to keep Air Force units and weapon systems in a state of readiness and to sustain their operations in peace, war and contingencies. The command carries out this mission through five air logistics centers and 12 specialized centers. AFLC employs more than 98,000 men and women throughout the world. General McCoy was born in 1935, in Smiths Ferry, Pa., and earned a bachelor of military science degree from the U.S. Military Academy in 1957. He completed Industrial College of the Armed Forces in 1977. After receiving his commission in June 1957, he was assigned to the 55th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing, Forbes Air Force Base, Kan., as unit supply officer, executive officer and chief of supply liaison. In June 1960 the general transferred to Headquarters 5th Air Force, Fuchu Air Station, Japan. During a three-year tour of duty there, he served as base equipment management officer and supply staff officer. From July 1963 to August 1967 General McCoy was assigned to Headquarters Air Force Office of Aerospace Research, Washington, D.C., in key supply and materiel plans positions. He then served with the 355th Tactical Fighter Wing at Takhli Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand, as wing officer in charge of materiel control. In August 1968 General McCoy was assigned as logistics officer for the Supply Systems Branch at Headquarters Defense Supply Agency, Cameron Station, Va. In August 1971 he transferred to Headquarters Pacific Air Forces, Hickam Air Force Base, Hawaii. During this tour of duty, he served as chief of the War Plans Branch, International Logistics Division, and executive officer to the deputy chief of staff for logistics. He transferred to Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins Air Force Base, Ga., in June 1974. While there he served successively as logistics plans staff officer, Directorate of Materiel Management; deputy chief and later, chief, Aircraft Division, Directorate of Maintenance; and chief, C-130 Systems Management Office in the Directorate of Materiel Management. From April 1979 to June 1980 he served as director of plans and programs at Sacramento Air Logistics Center, McClellan Air Force Base, Calif., and then became the center's director of maintenance. In March 1983 he was assigned as deputy chief of staff for manpower and personnel, Air Force Logistics Command headquarters. While at Wright-Patterson, he served as deputy chief of staff for maintenance from July 1983 until May 1985, when he became deputy chief of staff for materiel management. In March 1987 he was appointed commander of Ogden Air Logistics Center, Hill Air Force Base, Utah. He assumed his present position in November 1988. His military decorations and awards include the Distinguished Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with two oak leaf clusters, Joint Service Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal with oak leaf cluster, Air Force Organizational Excellence Award with two oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal with service star and Vietnam Service Medal with three service stars. In 1982 General McCoy was winner of the Logistics Executive Management Award of the Air Force Association and the Society of Logistics Engineers' Logistics Management Field Award. He was promoted to lieutenant general Jan. 1, 1989, with same date of rank. (Current as of March 1989)
