BRIGADIER GENERAL JEAN E. KLICK

Brig. Gen. Jean E. Klick is vice commander, Headquarters Space Systems Division, Air Force Systems Command, Los Angeles Air Force Base, Calif.

General Klick was born in 1943, in Chicago and graduated from Willowbrook Community High School, Villa Park, Ill., in 1960. She earned a bachelor of arts degree from Purdue University in 1964 and a master's degree in business administration from Stanford University in 1970. During the 1977-78 academic year the general was a research associate in military sociology at the University of Chicago. She is a graduate of the University of Virginia Darden Business School Executive Program and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Seminar XXI. She completed Squadron Officer School in 1971, Air Command and Staff College in 1975, and National War College in 1982.

The general, a distinguished graduate of Officer Training School, Lackland Air Force Base, Texas, was commissioned a second lieutenant in December 1964. Her first assignment was as assistant director of base administration, England Air Force Base, La., from January 1965 to August 1966.

She then was assigned to Headquarters 9th Air Force, Shaw Air Force Base, S.C., as chief of the Publishing Division, Directorate of Administration. From August 1967 to August 1968 she was executive officer of the 432nd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing at Udorn Royal Thai Air Force Base, Thailand.

After receiving her master's degree from Stanford University through an Air Force Institute of Technology-sponsored graduate program in June 1970, General Klick served as chief, Career Control Section, Consolidated Base Personnel Office, Homestead Air Force Base, Fla. In July 1972 she became chief, Personnel Division, 2nd Weather Wing, Wiesbaden Air Base, West Germany. She was assigned to Ramstein Air Base, West Germany, in May 1973, as chief, Assignment Control Division, Deputy Chief of Staff, Personnel, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces in Europe.

Upon graduation from Air Command and Staff College in June 1975, General Klick served at Headquarters Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base. Neb., as staff director for women in the Air Force and later as chief, Personnel Plans Division. She became deputy military assistant to the assistant secretary of the Air Force for manpower, reserve affairs and installations, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., in June 1978. In July 1979 she became military assistant to the special assistant to the secretary and deputy secretary of defense.

After graduating from National War College, General Klick was assigned as commander of Los Angeles Air Force Station, Calif., and its annex, Fort MacArthur, from July 1982 to August 1984. She subsequently was assigned to Arnold Engineering and Development Center, Arnold Air Force Base, Tenn., where she served as vice commander. In April 1986 she became Air Force Systems Command inspector general, Andrews Air Force Base, Md. From June 1988 to March 1990 she was deputy commander for communications, operations support and control systems, Space Systems Division headquarters. She assumed her present position in March 1990.

General Klick's military awards and decorations include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with three oak leaf clusters, and Air Force Commendation Medal with two oak leaf clusters. She also wears the Senior Space Badge.

She was promoted to brigadier general July 1, 1989, with same date of rank.
