MAJOR GENERAL ANDREW M. EGELAND JR. Major General Andrew M. Egeland Jr. is deputy judge advocate general of the U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C. He assists the judge advocate general in managing 1,330 judge advocates, 250 civilian attorneys, 894 enlisted paralegals, and 720 other civilian employees assigned worldwide. In addition to overseeing a vast array of military justice, international and operational law, and civil law functions, including litigation affecting Air Force interests, the general provides legal advice to the Air Staff and commanders at all levels. The general received his commission in 1965 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the University of Virginia. He attained his juris doctorate degree from the University of Virginia School of Law in February 1968 and entered active duty in October 1968. He has served as staff judge advocate for 8th Air Force and three base-level legal offices. His major command experience includes tours as deputy staff judge advocate for Strategic Air Command and director of civil law for U.S. Air Forces in Europe.
