MAJOR GENERAL CHARLES E. REED JR. Maj. Gen. Charles E. Reed Jr. is the mobilization assistant to the Commander and Acting Director of Air, Space and Information Operations, Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Ga. General Reed entered the Air Force in 1974 as a graduate of the University of Tennessee, earning his commission through the ROTC program. His first assignment after pilot training was as a KC-135 pilot at Barksdale AFB, La. In 1981 he was selected for the initial cadre of the KC-10 program in Strategic Air Command's first Reserve associate program. General Reed served as an instructor pilot, flight examiner, Chief of Training, Chief of Standardization and Evaluation, Operations Officer and Commander. He has served in numerous operational missions including operations Just Cause, Desert Shield, Desert Storm, Southern Watch, Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. In addition to being a squadron commander, he has held assignments as vice commander of a wing and a Numbered Air Force. In 2005, he was mobilized and deployed as Director of Mobility Forces for the U.S. Central Command with responsibilities for Iraq, Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa. Prior to assuming his current position, he was mobilized and served as the Director of Air, Space and Information Operations, Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command, Robins AFB, Ga. He is a command pilot with more than 6,200 hours in airlift and air refueling missions. In his civilian occupation, he is a captain in international operations for a major airline.
