BRIGADIER GENERAL JAMES S. BROWNE

Brig. Gen. James S. Browne is Director of Operations, Headquarters Air Force Global Strike Command, Barksdale Air Force Base, La. General Browne provides policy, guidance, and advocates for resources for AFGSC’s nuclear and conventional forces. He is responsible for operations, training, exercises, testing, and evaluation of three Minuteman III ICBM wings, two B-52 wings, one B-2 bomb wing, and three UH-N1 helicopter squadrons. He directs command center operations and crisis action team activities, monitors and assesses unit readiness, and executes taskings in support of the Air Expeditionary Force.

General Browne is a distinguished graduate from the United States Air Force Academy as well as a Guggenheim and National Defense Fellow. He is an F-15 weapons school graduate and instructor. The general has served in various capacities in ten flying wings and been a commander of an operational fighter squadron, an air expeditionary operations group and two fighter wings. His staff experience includes the Headquarters Air Staff, the Secretary of the Air Force Staff, the Joint Staff and Global Strike Command. His flying and staff assignments span Alaska, Europe, the Pacific, Southwest Asia and the continental U.S. General Browne is a command pilot with more than 3,300 flying hours to include more than 700 combat hours. He has led combat missions over Iraq in support of operations Provide Comfort, Northern Watch and Iraqi Freedom as well as Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.

Prior to his current assignment, he was Commander, 325th Fighter Wing, Air Education and Training Command, Tyndall AFB, Fla. He led a fighter wing of more than 4,000 personnel who train F-22 pilots, air battle managers, intelligence officers, maintainers and other support specialists for worldwide assignment to combatant Air Force units.
