BRIGADIER GENERAL DAVID R. STILWELL Brig. Gen. David R. Stilwell is the Deputy Director for Politico-Military Affairs for Asia, Joint Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. He is responsible for regional planning and policy, and for the implementation of the national security strategy. This includes the Asia-Pacific, Central, South, Northeast and Southeast Asia regions, supporting the commanders of U.S. Pacific Command and U.S. Central Command. Additionally, he provides politico-military advice to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of Defense. General Stilwell entered the Air Force in 1980 as a Korean linguist. After a tour of duty in Korea, he attended the U.S. Air Force Academy, graduating in 1987 with a degree in Asian history. He then attended the University of Hawaii, earning a Master's degree in Asian studies and Chinese language in 1988. General Stilwell is a career fighter pilot with 3000 hours and operational tours in the RF-4C and the F-16 at Bergstrom Air Force Base, Texas; Shaw AFB S.C.; Kunsan Air Base, South Korea; and Misawa AB, Japan; and a tour as an Aggressor pilot at Nellis AFB, Nev. His staff assignments include a tour as an Assistant Professor of History at the Air Force Academy, Chief of Combat Applications at the Joint Intelligence Center Pacific, and Chief of Plans and Programs for Air Combat Command. While stationed at Misawa AB, Brigadier General Stilwell served as the Pacific Air Forces Demonstration Pilot, representing the U.S. at airshows in Guam, Australia, Singapore, Malaysia, South Korea and Japan. He commanded the Adversary Tactics Group at Nellis AFB, Nev., where he was responsible for integrating Air, Space and Cyberspace threat training for Air Force and Joint audiences, as well as the planning and execution of four RED FLAG exercises annually. General Stilwell has deployed to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Turkey in support of combat operations in the Middle East.
