John W. Henderson is the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Installations, Environment and Energy. He is responsible for the formulation, review, oversight and execution of plans, policies, programs, and budgets for all Air Force installations, energy, environment, safety and occupational health objectives.
Mr. Henderson was commissioned in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in May 1994 upon graduation from the South Dakota School of Mines and retired in the grade of colonel in 2017 after a 23-year career. Mr. Henderson previously served as the commander for the 864th Engineer Battalion (Task Force Pacemaker), during Operation Enduring Freedom in 2013, the battalion operations officer for the 25th Infantry Division Special Troops Battalion (Task Force Phoenix) during Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2006-2007, and the operations officer for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2004. He held multiple command and staff positions throughout his career to include six assignments supporting the Indo-Pacific Area of Operations and five assignments with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, culminating as the Commander for the Omaha District. Mr. Henderson is a licensed professional engineer in the state of South Dakota.
