Brig. Gen. (Dr.) Sharon Bannister is the Command Surgeon, Headquarters Air Combat Command at Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. She organizes, trains, equips and sustains combat-ready medical forces for rapid deployment and employment. She is responsible to the ACC Commander for the healthcare of 81,000 active duty and civilian personnel located at 11 bases and more than 300 operating locations worldwide, as well as a comprehensive, community-based health care system. She supports Combatant Command requirements as the Air Force's medical global force provider and serves as the Air Force Surgeon General’s Readiness Goal Champion. Additionally, as the Assistant Surgeon General for Dental Services, the general provides policy and operational advice to the Air Force Surgeon General on matters involving the dental practice of 1,000 dentists and 2,500 technicians.

Prior to this assignment, Brig. Gen. Bannister served as the Deputy Assistant Director, Education and Training, Defense Health Agency, Defense Health Headquarters, Falls Church, Virginia. She was charged with joint development and sustainment of the Department of Defense medical training initiatives and academic policy, leading 509 staff across two regions with an annual operating budget of $61.5 million. She was directly responsible for the three medical institutes that graduate more than 28,000 enlisted medical personnel annually, and provide combat trauma and joint medical operations training to more than 260,000 DoD personnel.
