Maj. Gen. David P. Garfield is the Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, Air Education and Training Command, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas. Brig. Gen. Garfield is the Senior Advisor to the commander for Air Force Reserve matters and is responsible for assisting the commander in running the day-to-day operations of AETC, which includes the Air Force Recruiting Service, two numbered Air Forces, and Air University. The command operates more than 1,400 trainer, fighter and mobility aircraft, with 24 wings, 11 installations and five geographically separated units. It trains more than 293,000 students per year with approximately 60,000 active duty, Air Force Reserve, Air National Guard, civilian and contractor personnel.
Prior to his current assignment, Maj. Gen. Garfield was the Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, Headquarters U.S. Air Forces Europe-Air Forces Africa, which was responsible for providing full-spectrum warfighting capabilities to both combatant commanders throughout their area of responsibility, encompassing 104 countries in Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East, the Arctic and Atlantic oceans.
Maj. Gen. Garfield graduated from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1989. He was a distinguished graduate of ROTC and commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force in 1989. He earned his pilot wings in 1991 at Williams Air Force Base, Arizona. He served on active duty from 1990 to 1999 as a T-38 instructor pilot, flight examiner and F-16 pilot. He joined the Air Force Reserve in 1999 and has served in a variety of flying, staff and command assignments.
