Brig. Gen. Matthew J. Burger is the Deputy Commander, Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia. He is responsible for the daily operations of the command, consisting of approximately 70,000 Reserve Airmen and more than 300 aircraft among three numbered Air Forces, 34 flying wings, 10 flying groups, a space wing, a cyber wing and an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance wing. The Air Force Reserve Command supports the Air Force mission to defend the United States through control and exploitation of air, space and cyberspace by supporting global engagement. AFRC plays an integral role in the day-to-day Air Force.

Brig. Gen. Burger began his career upon graduation from the Air Force Academy in 1990 followed by undergraduate helicopter training at Fort Rucker Army Airfield, Alabama. He served in the Regular Air Force as an HH-1 instructor pilot and chief of safety with the 37th Aerospace Rescue and Recovery Squadron, Grand Forks Air Force Base, North Dakota. After nearly 10 years on active duty, he received a reserve appointment and joined the 301st Rescue Squadron, Patrick AFB, Florida. A career instructor pilot and evaluator, Brig. Gen. Burger is a command pilot with more than 4,500 flying hours in the C-17, KC-135, HH-60G, HH-1H and T-1.

Brig. Gen. Burger has held numerous staff and command positions, including tours on Department of the Air Force staff and both Operations Group and Wing Command tours. Prior to his current position, Brig. Gen. Burger served as Director of Air, Space, and Information Operations, Headquarters Air Force Reserve Command, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.
