BRIGADIER GENERAL JOHN P. NEWBERRY

Brig. Gen. John P. Newberry is the Air Force Program Executive Officer for Tankers, Tanker Directorate, Air Force Life Cycle Management Center, Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. He is responsible for the planning and execution of all life-cycle activities for the Air Force’s tanker fleet, to include development, test, production, fielding and support of the KC-46 tanker system, as well as modification and support of the fielded KC-135 and KC-10 tanker systems operated by the Air Force and partner nations.

In his previous assignment, he was the KC-46 System Program Manager and led a program office responsible for the planning and execution of the KC-46 Tanker program, to include development, test, production, training, fielding and sustainment.

Brig. Gen. Newberry entered active duty in 1994 after graduating from United States Air Force Academy with a degree in Aeronautical Engineering. During his career he served in a variety of acquisition fields including space test, flight test, systems engineering, program manager of several aircraft acquisition programs, to include foreign military sales programs and served as Deputy Program Executive Office for Air Force Mobility Programs, assisting the PEO in program execution, executive management and supervision responsibilities of all acquisition programs in the Air Force’s mobility and training aircraft portfolio. His previous staff assignments included Program Element Monitor for air refueling tankers and Joint Staff J8, where he oversaw strategic and tactical major defense acquisition programs for the Department of Defense. Brig. Gen. Newberry commanded the 546th Aircraft Sustainment Squadron, Oklahoma City Air Logistics Center, where he provided contractor logistics support to a total of 69 aircraft across eight different fleets, comprised mainly of the E-4B, RC-26, C-12 and Iraq foreign military sales. He deployed to Afghanistan in 2007 as a procurement officer, equipping the Afghan National Army.
