MAJOR GENERAL J. CLARENCE DAVIES

Maj. Gen. J. Clarence Davies Jr. is the Mobilization Assistant to the Commander in Chief, Strategic Air Command, Offutt Air Force Base, Nebraska.

Maj. Gen. Davies was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Army in May 1942, and assigned to the Norfolk Air Defense Wing, Norfolk, Virginia. During that tour he served as Adjutant, Wing Personnel Officer and Wing Executive Officer. In May 1943, he was transferred to the Fifth Air Defense Wing, which, upon deployment to England, was redesignated the 66th Fighter Wing of the English U.S. Army Air Forces. There he became commanding officer of the Headquarters Squadron, and in 1944 was transferred to the 437th Air Service Group, assuming command in that year. In August 1945, the Group was returned to the United States and the general returned to inactive duty in 1946.

In 1950, he was given an M-Day assignment as Deputy Commander of the 32nd Air Division (Defense) at Roslyn, Long Island, New York. In 1959 he was transferred to the New York Air Defense Sector at McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey, and designated Mobilization Assistant to the Commander, 26th Air Division (SAGE) in October 1960, redesignated as First Air Force in April 1966. He served as a member of HQ USAF Air Reserve Forces Policy Committee, Washington, D.C., 1963 to 1967; Chairman, Air Defense Command, Air Reserve Forces Policy Council, 1961 to 1964; and Advisor to Air Defense Command, Air Reserve Forces Policy Council, 1964 to 1967. In April 1969, he was appointed to a three-year term on the Reserve Forces Policy Board, Department of Defense. From July 1970 to March 1972 he was the Mobilization Assistant to the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Washington, D.C.

He was promoted to major general on February 10, 1966.

Decorations and Awards: Legion of Merit; American Campaign Medal; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with Bronze Star for Air Offensive, Europe; Presidential Unit Citation; World War II Victory Medal; Air Force Longevity Service Award; and Armed Forces Reserve Medal (Air Force).
