Dr. Seth A. Faith, a member of the scientific and professional cadre of senior executives, is the Senior Scientist for Biotechnology and Biomedical Sciences at the Air Force Research Laboratory, 711th Human Performance Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He serves as the principal scientific authority and independent researcher in the research, development and application of biomedical and biotechnological innovations for Airmen and Guardians. Dr. Faith is also the chair of the Air Force Research Laboratory Biotechnology Community of Practice and represents Air Force in Tri-Service Communities of Interest for Biotechnology and Human Systems.
Dr. Faith began his career with the Air Force in 2022 as the Core Technical Competency Lead at the AFRL, 711 HPW/Air and Space Biosciences Division. Prior to his Air Force career, Dr. Faith gained over 20 years’ civilian experience in industrial, academic and government biotech Research, Development, Test and Evaluation. He directed projects for bioterrorism risk assessment and managed a large portfolio of genomics Research and Development programs for private industry, the U.S. Department of Defense, and U.S. Intel communities. Notably, he directed paradigm changing research that yielded the first demonstration of the use of Next-generation sequencing and bioinformatics to perform forensic DNA genotyping (2012), leading to the delivery of a first-in-class DNA analysis system. He also managed tech-transfer and method validations for state and federal laboratories adopting NGS bioanalytical technologies. As an assistant professor, Dr. Faith guided interdisciplinary research programs for national security and bio-forensics sponsored by the U.S. Department of Justice and DoD. He served as a biotechnology advisor for The Federal Bureau of Investigation Scientific Working Group on DNA Analysis and Methods, the National Institute of Standards and Technology Organization of Scientific Area Committees and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences Standards board. Dr. Faith held an executive academic administrative position at a Tier 1 research University where he co-founded and directed the Center of Microbiome Science, and established and managed a CLIA-compliant laboratory to enable clinical diagnostics and environmental surveillance during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Faith is a member of the American Society of Microbiology and American Academy of Forensic Sciences, has authored over 40 primary research articles, presented 48 conference abstracts, holds two patents, and has been an invited speaker to over 40 scientific meetings in the scope of genomics, forensics and infectious diseases.
