Airman's selfless act saves life
Airman 1st Class David Maxwell (right) and his cousin Austin Pumneo are catching some sun March 21, 2011, at a beach in Flaorida, after Maxwell donated a kidney to his cousin. Pumneo had been diagnosed with nephrosclerosis, which is a condition that causes the outer layer of the kidney to harden and could lead to kidney failure. After doing a lot of research and talking it over with his family, Maxwell made the decision to help and volunteered to donate a kidney to his cousin. He is a communication security accountant assigned to the 5th Communications Squadron at Minot Air Force Base, N.D. (Courtesy photo)
