Former MTI sentenced during sexual misconduct trial

In what has become the eighth courts martial in a series of allegations against military training instructors accused of various forms of sexual misconduct or assault, a former MTI was sentenced during a trial at Joint Base San Antonio -- Lackland, Texas.

A sentence was returned Feb. 14 in the general court-martial of former Air Force military training instructor (MTI) Staff Sgt. Craig A. Leblanc.

Military Judge, Colonel Donald R. Eller, Jr., sentenced him to be confined for 30 months; reduction to the grade of E-1 (Airman Basic); and to be dishonorably discharged.

Staff Sgt. Leblanc was found guilty of two specifications of making false official statements; one specification of obstructing justice; three specifications of violating lawful No-Contact Orders; one specification of absenting himself from his military organization without leave; one specification of maltraining basic trainees under his authority; one specification of committing adultery on multiple occasions; one specification of wrongfully seeking to develop a personal, intimate and sexual relationship with a basic trainee by engaging in sexual intercourse with her, sending her text messages and calling her; and one specification of wrongfully attempting to develop a personal social relationship with a technical training student. He was found not guilty of a specification of aggravated sexual assault.
