Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force James Roy walked through lines of Airmen as he stepped out of his office for the last time, as the senior enlisted leader of the Air Force, Jan. 17, at the Pentagon.

More than 200 Airmen lined the hallways of the Pentagon to show support during this farewell to Roy.

Roy, whose Air Force career spans more than 30 years, is the 16th chief master sergeant appointed to the service's highest noncommissioned officer position, according to his official biography.

Roy will officially transfer the duties and responsibilities of his position to Chief Master Sgt. James Cody, Jan. 24, in a transition ceremony at Joint Base Andrews, Md.

Cody is coming from Air Education and Training Command, where he serves as the command chief.
