The Association for Enterprise Information recognized U.S. Transportation Command as the winner of its 2011 Government Organization Defense Architecture Award.

The award highlights the command's USTRANSCOM Joint Deployment and Distribution Architecture - Enhanced as a model for policy and practice sharpening an information advantage within the Department of Defense.

JDDA-E is based on the principles of service orientation, virtualization and business process management aligned with and supporting the USTRANSCOM Information Technology Plan. Its service oriented architecture and business process management framework for synchronized and responsive operations for business processes.

The JDDA-E is unique as the only DOD architecture where operators can control business processes and rules through the BPM suite without relying on IT professionals. JDDA-E gives software development teams a means to validate the architecture through proof-of-concepts, pilots and demonstrations. The teams include both technical and functional members who use JDDA-E prescribed Agile Development Methodology and Lean Six Sigma techniques to solve enterprise-wide distribution problems.

An example of how the enhanced architecture improves distribution and provides a more effective, capabilities-based acquisition strategy is iDistribute.mil.

In 2010, the JDDA-E facilitated the delivery of the iDistribute.mil portal, a new work-centric information environment for the DOD supply chain.
iDistribute.mil provides operators and customers a one-stop-shop for conducting and improving the business of DOD distribution.

iDistribute.mil is helping the enterprise transition from a stove-piped distribution system to a self-service system that handles information as a strategic asset. This iGoogle-like capability makes distribution data available throughout USTRANSCOM with Web 2.0 collaboration tools such as file-sharing, instant messaging and wiki pages.

JDDA-E already has an impact on USTRANSCOM and enhanced DOD's distribution and logistics efficiencies through its broad and comprehensive focus.
