If getting fit is part of your resolution for 2010, you can ring in the new year by signing up for the Air Force Marathon.

Online registration for the marathon opens Jan. 1 at 12:01 a.m., and to encourage early sign ups, the Air Force Marathon Office is offering special discounted registration rates for the marathon and affiliated events that are valid only on New Year's Day.

Registration fees for all races made that day are discounted $5.

The 14th annual Air Force Marathon is scheduled for Sept. 18, 2010 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Race events include a marathon, wheeled marathon, half-marathon and 10K that start and finish on the grounds of the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. An affiliated 5K race will take place Sept. 17 conducted in partnership with neighboring Wright State University.

No military affiliation is required to participate in marathon events. Race Director Molly Louden encouraged runners to take advantage of the lowest prices of the year. Registration fees rise as the race date approaches.

Nearly 10,000 runners participated in 2009 Air Force Marathon races. For 2010, runner registration will be capped at 3,000 for the full marathon, 5,000 for the half-marathon, 2,000 for the 10K and 2,000 for the 5K.
